Poor pictures / photos

It did't fill my expectations at all. Although there's a lot of different flaps and techniques described, the surgical steps are not clear. The photos are black and white and low resolution. Some pictures seems to be made by a 5 year child. I don't recommend it. Try Ian Jackson's or Baker's book.

Radiation for designing The Generator

This is my favorite book in my small library on physics. I have read about nuclear physics in other books, but this takes the prize. Instead of flooding the student with an immense load, the focus on radiation provides a vehicle that the student can ride with pleasure. Some surprising pieces of knowledge were read in Nuc. Rad. Interactions by Yip. The Coulomb force in a nucleus can attract at close range within some constraints from page 94. Thank you Sidney Yip for a book that will enlighten those diligent seekers of experimentally derived models.

About the Author
Horacio has been teaching the GMAT since 2001; he has taught the test in five countries (the U.S, Argentina, Brazil, Kuwait, and Uruguay) in three languages: English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. Took the real GMAT nearly 20 times, literally, and scored several times into the 99th percentile (780 being his highest score). He taught the GMAT at ManhattanGMAT from 2004 to 2012 where he tutored one-on-one over 100 students and made around 10,000 (yes, ten thousand) half-an-hour long office hours calls from mid 2007 to early 2012, getting an average score of “outstanding” from his students in the very demanding ManhattanGMAT scoring system, proof of this is that he was called (in the introduction to MG’s Official Guide Companion) “our office hours ace” by Andrew Yang, a former ManhattanGMAT CEO. He is the author of “Horacio’s Hot List” of the same book. He wrote hundreds of GMAT quant problems for ManhattanGMAT, a lot of which appear in MG’s CAT exams and question banks. He plans to bring all his experience into the writing of a series of GMAT books. Horacio holds an MBA in Finance from Tulane University (turned down offers from two top ten schools because Tulane offered a full merit-based international scholarship and was very happy when he realized that Tulane’s business school is an excellent one in spite of its relatively low ranking). He also holds a Tulane MA in Political Science / Latin American Studies, which he took on a full merit-based scholarship as well. He has been married to Alejandra for 17 years and they have a 16 year-old son, Rodrigo. Horacio is a great chess and backgammon player as well as a very mediocre golfer.

About the Author
William Buskist is the Distinguished Professor in the Teaching of Psychology at Auburn University and a Faculty Fellow at Auburn’s Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning. He has published widely on issues related to teaching and learning, both within his own discipline of psychology and more generally in higher education. His most recent publications include edited works with Groccia (Evidence-Based Teaching) and with Victor Benassi (Effective College and University Teaching: Strategies and Tactics for the New Professoriate). He has served as President for the Society for the Teaching of Psychology and is currently the Editor-in Chief for the Society’s e-book program). He has won numerous teaching awards at both the local and national levels as have many of his graduate student prot�g�s. He is a Fellow of both the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.

Victor Benassi is a professor of psychology and faculty director of the University of New Hampshire (UNH) Center for Teaching Excellence. He has taught courses in college teaching and supervised graduate students' teaching of psychology since the early 1980s. His research has addressed such topics as judgment of personal control, belief in alleged paranormal phenomena, and depression. Additionally, Professor Benassi is involved in developing and implementing Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) programs at UNH. He is one of several people from UNH who developed and implemented a formal academic program in college teaching that is available to graduate students and faculty from UNH and other institutions. In recent years, he has been developing an online course titled Preparing to Teach a Psychology Course. Through the efforts of eight master teachers of psychology, over 200 graduate students and faculty from the United States and eight other countries have completed the course. Dr. Benassi also has joint appointments as Professor of Psychology (Psychology Department) and Professor of College Teaching (Graduate School). He has received several UNH awards―the Excellence in Teaching Award, the Outstanding Use of Technology in Education Award, and the College of Liberal Arts’ Lindberg Outstanding Scholar/Teacher Award. In 2003, he received the American Psychological Foundation's Distinguished Teaching of Psychology award.

This is practical research! Love it!

I am a first year community college instructor who has a background in secondary (high school) teaching. I am also a doctorate student examining the make-up of a graduate school curriculum in regards to preparing students for the profesoriate. In the one year I have been studying, this, by far, is my favorite resource. It is very practical and offers wonderful, research-based suggestions for my study. I think what I appreciate the most is the wealth of resources it shares in its references sections and throughout various chapters. They have guided me toward experts in this field.

This book has single-handedly excited my study! I'm so glad I stumbled across it!

Designed and built by the White Motor Company, the M3 Scout Car saw service as a command vehicle, ambulance, gun tractor and patrol and scout vehicle during WWII. Over 21,000 were built between 1937 and 1944 — the vast majority of them the M3A1 variant, which had a longer and wider hull than the original production vehicles. Both the M3 and M3A1 had a six cylinder gas engine (a diesel variant M3A1E1 was produced for a short time), and could carry up to seven men at a top speed of 55-65 mph depending on configuration. Both had a radiator protected by an armored shutter, and a shatter-proof windshield. The M3A1 also carried a front-mounted roller to prevent it from bogging down on muddy ground, and could carry three machine guns (two .30 calibers and one .50) on a hull-mounted skate rail. The M3A1 saw service in the Pacific, North Africa and Europe, with over 3,000 handed to the Soviet Union via lend-lease. While it performed admirably enough in the field the open top design, light armament and poor off-road characteristics led most Army units to replace it with the M8 armored car and M20 utility car by 1944. Originally produced in 1941, this technical manual was standard issue to M3, M3A1, and M2 crews. Originally restricted, this manual was declassified long ago and is here reprinted in book form.

Is science fiction merely "popcorn" entertainment? Not really, and this book helps explain why.

Science fiction films have been popular since the beginning of cinema. The themes contained in them are timeless, and the inventiveness with which they have been approached is impressive. This interesting analysis connects this form of popular culture to larger themes at play in American society. The themes discussed in this one are appropriate, but perhaps not particularly the most significant, dwelling as they do almost exclusively with the tensions present in the new social history's emphasis on race, ethnicity, class, and gender. Individual chapters single out race and gender for analysis, even as these themes are also brought to bear in all of the other chapters as well. Nothing is real wrong with this approach, but I would have been more enthralled with a broader introduction to a significant genre of film. This is especially the case when it seeks to offer a more general overview.

Were I to write such a book the themes of the new social history would be present no doubt, but I think the larger allegorical aspects of science fiction, the political commentary of governance and polity, the social criticism, the campaigns for reform, and the like quite critical to the story. While I don't want to press this too far, recognizing that Christine Cornea has offered a useful book overall, much more could have been done. I'm hesitant to downgrade the book too much because of what it did not deliver that I had expected, for "Science Fiction Cinema" is still a very fine work; I am seeking that broadly analytical, short, succinct, and engaging overview.

Useful background info but overly theoretical

While preparing to teach a class on The Science Fiction Film, I looked at a number of texts on the subject and chose Cornea's book. That said, I felt it was the best of a bad lot. Science Fiction isn't always easy to categorize, but Cornea lingered over some questionable titles, such as The Demon Seed, and allowed other, more classic or recognizable titles much less space. Also, Cornea, an obvious feminist, wasted a lot of print in my opinion on gender issues. How helpful are chapters entitled "The Masculine Subject of Science Fiction in the 1980s" and "Gender Blending and the Science Fiction Subject in Science Fiction Film" when you're simply trying to introduce the students to the fundamentals of science fiction? Another chapter is on race relations in the science fiction film. Because she's interested in gender issues and race, she favors films that fit these categories and tends to ignore those that don't, skipping some important films. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I want my students to get a solid grounding in the major themes and films of the genre and not be overly concerned with image and theory. Nevertheless, in spite of these drawbacks, Cornea does tackle the major sci-fi eras, such as the 1950s, with enthusiasm and provides the reader with a sense (though limited) of the history and background to the genre.

The Absolute Necessity of the Holy Spirit

This book, which is a series of Wigglesworth's sermons, was tremendous. We are meant to walk in victory in this life and in so doing point to the reality of the living God. With God on the throne, with Jesus in our hearts, with the Holy Spirit's power and leading in our lives, our faith is no mere belief or doctrine but a powerful, living, overflowing spiritual reality open to all. Wigglesworth put no constraints on God; he accepted Him at his Holy Word and gladly received all of the promises available to us all. Trust, yield, receive the Holy Ghost, know His presence daily, follow His leading - and wield His power to bring sinners to Christ accordingly. Wigglesworth's example is to be followed if our lives are to have the meaning and purpose God meant for them to have.

Powerful Book!

Smith Wigglesworth is known as a faith filled man of God whose ministry span several decades. He is known for his straight forwardness and his uncanny ability to trust God no matter what.

This man of God has confronted the devil where ever he met him and in his book Wigglesworth on the Anointing he showed the reader how to do the same. This book is a collection of sermons which were compiled into a book so that readers could experience a deeper anointing from God in their lives.

Wigglesworth points out that each Christian has the ability live in victory and power through the equipping of Holy Spirit. But in order to do so self must die. He points out that the devil will take all the comfort that we give him. In order to have victory the devil must be challenged and defeated and that can only occur through Jesus.

Each believer has a choice...you can stay at the level you are at or you can seek a deeper anointing. If you are ready for a deeper anointing then this book is for you.

Wigglesworth comes across as a powerhouse of faith. His book is written in a simple yet straight forward manner. There are some typographical errors and incomplete thoughts...nonetheless you will feel the anointing of God on you as you read his words.

This book is for people who want to experience a closer walk with God...a more powerful anointing on their lives, or who desire to do greater works for the Lord...

Not very helpful

A few years back, an author named Paddy Griffith wrote a book called "The Viking Art of War," which has since been cordially disliked by Viking reenactors all over the world. Griffith held an essentially low opinion of Viking tactics and strategies, and (as I recall) of Viking intelligence in general.

Now I. P. Stephenson has written a new book on the subject, "Viking Warfare." Paddy Griffith ought to welcome its appearance, since it will provide a new target for the hate. Reenactors will hate this book just as much, but for different reasons.

Stephenson's first sin (in my view) is to utterly reject the Icelandic sagas as a source of historical information. If he has read Prof. Torgrim Titlestad's or Gisli Sigurdsson's defenses of saga reliabiliity, he dismisses them out of hand. The sagas were written centuries after the events, he says, for the purpose of glamorizing the authors' ancestors. For that reason they cannot be trusted at any point.

But he nevertheless maintains that we have enough information to provide material for a book. Unfortunately, he fails to demonstrate that contention. He analyzes the history of Viking activities, their battle strategies, and their equipment, and all the way through he ends almost every discussion with the equivalent of, "But we don't really know for sure." If you enjoy seeing an author admit his ignorance over and over, this is the book for you.

He also makes a number of summary judgments which I, as a reenactor myself, find doubtful. Shield walls were only loose formations, he tells us, not solid lines of overlapped shields. The "swine" formation was a simple column, not a wedge. Leather helmets are purely fictional. Scramasaxes were seldom carried. Hundreds of reenactors around the world, me among them, will disagree on several of these points, not on the basis of academic research, but through experience on the field.

It's only at the very end, where he examines the Battle of Maldon, that Stephenson breaks out and actually makes an interesting contribution to the historical discussion. He does his best to rehabilitate Byrhtnoth Byhrthelmsson, the English commander at the poetically immortalized battle, whose leadership was condemned by no less a scholar than J. R. R. Tolkien. Stephenson argues - persuasively - that if you consider the battle from the perspective of Byhrtnoth's primary objective - to prevent the Vikings' escape - everything he did makes good sense. He just had the bad luck to get killed.

Scholarly types will want to read "Viking Warfare" just for its unconventional arguments, but I don't think it has much useful to offer the average reader.
