This book is a wonderful balance between informative text and gorgeously reproduced artwork

This book is a wonderful balance between informative text and gorgeously reproduced artwork. It is also printed at a physical size that is manageable. Some Disney art books are so oversized that it makes it difficult to enjoy as you fumble with them. It is a beautiful, designed with care package that contains delights and surprises on every page. No matter how knowledgeable you think you are about Disney, this book reveals how
much all of us never knew that we never knew.

While knowledgeable Disney fans may recognize some of the names in this book, Didier truly brings these artists to life and shares why their contributions were so important to the earliest Disney animated cartoons of the 1930s. Didier is a well respected Disney historian whose other books including the amazing Walt's People series have enriched Disney history. By leveraging his connections, Didier was able to find not only artwork that has rarely if ever been seen since it was first produced but also information and insights to four Disney's legendary concept artists that have not been previously documented.

While the book effortlessly guides the reader from page to page, a quick glance at the acknowledgements will reveal the depth of research Didier went through to find and organize this material. The book is a fun browse for a casual fan interested in Disney art but for those who want something more, Didier has created a valuable reference for further exploration and understanding.

For any true Disney animation fan, this is a "must have" for your collection.

An exceptional book - a must have title!

I was amazed as I thumbed through the book at the diversity, quality, and sheer beauty of the art work contained in this volume. I have over 300 Disney themed books in my collection, and I am used to seeing the same art work "recycled". Not so with this book!! Most of the art I have never seen before! The text is lively and informative, giving insight into the artists' lives and influences. I will return to this beautiful book again and again to enjoy all it contains.

An essential addition to a Disney book collection

About the best recommendation I can give to this book comes from my wife. She enjoys Disney but is by no means the fanatic that I am. When the book arrived, and she looked at it she said, "Wow, that's really nice. Put it aside when you are done so I can look through it."

Just a gorgeous book. Wonderful supportive text on some of the greats from Disney and the art is magnificent. Essential Disney for the serious fan (and even for the casual one).

A networked world
The conversation manager discusses how the internet evolved from an information platform towards a social phenomenon where people easily find like-minded people to share their daily experiences with brands and companies. The post-modern nomad builds the online image of brands together with other customers and together they have a great impact. Today, everyone is a medium.

Traditional marketing is dead
Together with this, he describes how traditional advertisers are very aware of this, but they have barely changed their attitude. They keep on making advertising on the traditional way. Instead the author discusses, they have to become Conversation Managers.
The new decision making process of the consumer requires a new sales strategy. Conversation Managers do not use the traditional approach where one assumed that the consumer does not have a lot of information about a product.

They have learned from the past, where mass media created a gap between sales persons and their customers. When customers were informed with `smart' information about a product, and where customers who didn't agree could not express their voice.
Today a company that isn't transparent in their business, having authentic good intentions with their customers will pay cash in the nowadays networked society. Today mass media should be used differently, but it still can be used to strengthen the word-of-mouth-message tremendous.

From transparency to conversation

Bridging this gap, advertisers will have to get to learn their customers again. The task of the Conversation Manager is to have a continuous dialogue with the customer, who has become a starting point of advertisement. Together with their customers they have to co-create a long-term conversation instead of executing one-way advertisement.
In this long-term conversation, one must try minimize the gap between brand identity and the (aspirational) identity of the consumer, this by listening to important customers who express their voice. If a consumer perceives his voice is being heard, the online narrative and the general perception of the brand will improve which in turn will effectuate in higher sales.

Activating instead of advertising
Also different from the past is that the main target of the Conversation Manager will be activating people instead of advertising the brand. They have to try to convince the selected target group to spread the message within their own network, and in some cases to personally produce the content.

The biggest danger of this is activation because of the activation. This will not improve the sales of a brand. A campaign with a big viral effect, just because of the viral effect has to be avoided. Activation is successful when following dimensions are present:
- the `right' consumers have to spread the message
- they have to spread it because of the right motivation
- and the subject of the narrative has to be brand or the product

To spread the advertisement, the message has to have a certain sticky-factor. It has to be a story that people easily remember by making it authentic, surprising, simple, emotional and concrete. These elements make it easier to transmit to a friend.

The Conversation manager versus Imagineering
Conversation Management has been conceived enthusiast in the Belgian marketing world. The name Conversation Management (capital C, capital M) is smart, and everybody can imagine what this can mean for his or her own organisation. The introduction of Conversation Management shares this with the Imagineering roadmap that takes businesses trough a whole roadmap of organizational change.

Artefact versus the Conversation manager
So both sciences advertise organizational change of companies in a networked era. But while they have a lot in common, they have an important different focus.
It is the purpose of imagineering to create an artefact or high concept, based on shared values of all stakeholders. This mostly goes along with a creation process based upon old values and existing high points of an organisation.
Conversation management focuses on how marketers should become internal Conversation Managers. It created an awareness of the importance of the online narrative that exists about brands and companies, which goes along with new job descriptions of people inside the company.

An annotated code example, and not much more than that

The book is an annotated code example, which is interesting if you are in the process of creating a CQRS implementation. However, it is not much more than that.

I read this book after a colleague at work had given us an introduction on CQRS. After reading it, I felt that if I would not have had that introduction, I would not have understood anything the book had to say.

Almost none of the CQRS concepts that are used in the book are defined, or even properly introduced. The author assumes that the audience is already familiar with them, in addition to Design Patterns and DDD.

The book has numerous syntactic and grammatical errors that are easy to spot, and they distract from the content. I think it is fair to assume that the book has not been proofread at all. Some example sentences to make this point:
* The problem here is that the information which events the entity can produce is already registered, and that is in the entities them self's. (p . 30)
* Here I am not going to show you the code of the PresenterTestFixture implementation as it is almost identical the the previous base test fixture. So lets go straight to an actual specification. (p. 51)

'CQRS, The example' is written as an oral report. It doesn't read like a regular book. Direct, Succinct and filled with content

Although I'm not done reading this book yet, the parts I have read are a terrific read. It reads quick, contains terrific explanations and does't leave gray areas unaddressed. I was pretty much a new comer to CQRS and while still not expert, I feel I can hold my own in any conversation after reading about 50% of the book in an hour or two (like I said, it reads quick).

I'm looking forward to completing this book in the near future.

I also think Mark's entire model - taking blog entries and combining into a single source - is a great pattern for others to follow. I wish other prominent/expert bloggers would do the same. It makes finding information very convenient because it's organized instead of scattered.

Great Intro to American Politics Textbook

Excellent intro to politics text. I highly recommend it for a classroom or for anyone really who wants to sit down with a plain-spoken piece to get you to understand our government. Whether it is for someone with little knowledge as to who this vast bureaucracy works, or for someone with a fairly good knowledge of it all - I don't think it will disappoint.
I think what I appreciated the most was the honesty that the text was written. The authors also included a good amount of humor to emphasize the point (in cartoon, comic, Top 10 List, etc), in order to keep a reader interested.
I think this text is also a good reference as well, as there are numerous court cases and explicit examples of gov't at work - that if you are ever at a loss for "what was it that happened?" or "what does that term mean?" Things are extremely easy to find and be referred to.

One Book for Sister Sarah

The reflection from the light shone on the book and back on me from the shelf, as I felt another impulse purchase coming on. I reflected how I had only one political science course throughout college. Not unlike the puppy dog at the kennel that licks you through the cage, the book was saying, "Pick me." I did.

My twentieth edition, hard cover copy provides everything we should know about how our government works, and therefore would be an excellent source for 98% of our population. Besides providing a DVD for interactive simulation of government working, it contains a copy of the U.S. Constitution (my fourth), beautiful maps, and illustrations of various demographics, including the breakdown of electoral votes. The book also covers everything you might want to know about balancing the nation's checkbook, running for Congress, who's got the power?, lobbying in America, a political survey asking readers what they believe, and much, much more.

For those who never had the benefit of such a course, or wondered if they missed something about politics through an education of coincidental learning and hard knocks, this book would be a thorough and ideal learning tool.

It is a frequent source of reference. I'm even thinking of sending a copy to Sarah Winkums.

Gives great insight to American government

I was amazed at how interesting this book was. I used it for a class I was taking, and I had many preconceived notions that I would not like the class. I was very surprised that everything was so interesting. The author has gathered all of the latest information that was available during the publication of the book, and intergrates the ideas and concepts very well. The book gives you information that a normal person of the "general public" would not have known. I found that every chapter had something to learn that benefited me and that everything in this book applied to me as an American. Great text for my online class; I'm glad we used this book.

This is an excellent book. I've used it in undergraduate (and graduate) courses here at the University of Chicago and have been VERY pleased with the result. Colleagues at Berkeley (where Professors Terrell and Gilbert teach) use it as well. It is quite possibly the most complete text on the subject I've ever used

In an impressive, well-documented study of juvenile crime and parental sadism, L.A. attorney Mones, writing with sensitivity, eloquently defends brutalized teenage parricides. He argues that such youngsters, having blocked off feelings in order to survive years of parental sexual or other physical and mental abuse, and without protection from the community or the justice system, reach a breaking point that triggers their killing of one or both parents--son-father patricide being the most common. Mones further charges that society does not extend to these teenagers the compassion and aid accorded to battered wives who return violence with violence. He advocates the establishment of more shelters for abused youths and enactment of laws similar to those in Sweden against physical punishment of children.

Not since the highly publicized 60 Minutes interview of Richard Jahnke, who at age 16 killed his father in their Wyoming home, and Alan Prendergast's ensuing book The Poison Tree ( LJ 6/1/86) have we glimpsed the stark reality of parricide. Although very little has been written on the subject, Mones is the leading authority in defending these cases. He humanely conveys the plight of children caught in the web of child abuse and/or neglect. With compassionate insight, he documents the cases of eight children and presents interviews with 12 more, chronicling the years of abuse that led to their desperate actions. Mones's study is more involving than Muriel Gardiner's Deadly Innocents: Portraits of Children Who Kill ( LJ 7/76). In an informative but casual writing style, he presents a strong case for compassion toward those trapped in a justice system unwilling or unable to cope with family violence. Highly recommended.

From an attorney who specializes in defending children who kill parents, case studies that show how years of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse--sometimes all three--always provide the motive for these crimes. It is nearly a decade since the national conscience was pricked by commission reports and well-publicized revelations on the subject of child abuse. Among the saddest aspects of the eight tragic stories related here is that so many relatives, friends, neighbors, teachers, social workers, judges, and jurors still turn blind eyes to evidence of abuse. Then a child dies, or is driven to murder. It is Mones's job, as a lawyer and an expert on juvenile parricide, to help convince a horrified court and community that the murder of an abusive parent is defensible, if not justifiable. The children are not always lovable, the parents are not always archvillains. But the moving stories of Tim, Patty, Steve, Cindy and others who shot mother or father or both show they knew no other way out. Painfully graphic, the details of incest and violence are presented here as they were laid out for the juries. Baldly evident are the flaws in a legal system that protects a parent's absolute authority over a child, virtually no matter what. honest author

After watching the Cody Posey murder trial (Court TV) I wanted to know more about this topic. Cody Posey testified in his trial that he had suffered horrible abuse at the hands of his father. I was very moved by his testimony and disappointed about his conviction. One of the interviewed Court TV trial experts for child abuse cases recommended the book When a Child Kills by Paul Mones. Luckily, my local library had this book.

This book is very shocking. I had to put it down after every chapter in order to process the facts. The author describes in a brutally raw way why some children kill their parents. I wouldn't call it child abuse in some of the described cases, I would call it severe torture.

The book (written in 1991) is timeless. Cody Posey's life story could have been one of the seven sad stories documented in this book. I am an atheist. I think hell is right here on earth.

A trial by peers? Don't believe it!

Mones was 20 years ahead of his time writing about child advocacy. Even today, the title of his book challenges unspoken feelings of society's attitude toward "Honor Thy Mother and Thy Father." He gives an excellent explanation of the trama and neglect found in child abuse. Reading his book will bring out a mixture of painful feelings that are realistic to the abuse problem we continue to have today, yet try to deny. Each chapter is a true story of its own accord that is so intriguing you can't put this book down. If you want to know what goes on in the mind and life history of adolescents who kill their parents, and the manner of how the courts handle them, then this is the book to read. Mones' writing style is fluid and factual. I already ordered his next book "Stalking of Justice."

Brilliant but heartbreaking book

Brilliant but heartbreaking book. Mones does a wonderful job of hitting every point and of explaining what I have always noticed, that the courts and the public alike seem to elevate the murdered parent and want to vilify the child even before the facts are in. This is a difficult book to read ... not because the writing is not crystal clear, which it is ... but because the facts Mones presents are so shocking. If a stranger rapes a child, he gets a long prison sentence. If a parent rapes a child, it is presumed that the child was somehow also culpable and the sentence is lower. Mones makes you realize that we must do better for our children.

Love this book!
It's very very very comprehensive and very up to date,like I am writing this book review on 9th June 2014,the book is soo recent at this pont as this edition 2.5(Thats a very strange number to have for an edition BTW!!)and the edn got published just on 22 May so for me,this is the latest book available as I start readin 4 CK!
Plus points-
1-Very thorough
2-Comprehensive
3-Review Questions
4-Very up to dated
5-Easy to read!!
6-Many shockers like 5th Gen Cephalosporins etc
7-Actually a fun read..

Too many mistakes

I really wanted to like this book, and I've managed to ignore the many typographical errors. This book has potential but is poorly organized and written, with factual inaccuracies and is confusing often times. The author really needs to review management guidelines and clear up loose and misleading information.

I've only read the first 100 pages but have found several mistakes I'm not sure how much more I will read
