Don't listen to much to me, I am no expert in this matter...

I read this book without knowing what it was going to do to me. It is a good novel, with a good trama (if you like the sixties), but most of all, it has a lot of deep philosophy that can make you see life from a different perspective (for this you have to read a lot between lines, if not will be distracted). It is like smelling India, without having done it before. And remember, "The life is a bridge, Pass over it but do not build on it. He who hopes for an hour may hope for eternity. The world is but an hour. Spend it in devotion. The rest is unseen"...

GREAT INTRODUCTION TO A GREAT PAINTER

Books on Dufy are expensive and sometimes hard to find. This older edition is a great introduction. The text is very good, informative and makes the man come to life. The illustrations, while small, are top notch. Most older Skira editions contain the "tipped in" (glued in) illustrations, all in color. These were printed on fine, hard paper (the text is on much softer stock) and, thus, retain great brightness and impact. Growing up with these Skira (and Taschen) books I find that they hold up very well as art books. There is an old time grace to them.

Simple shepherd Drew Ferran learned he is the missing Werewolf heir to the throne of Lyssia and led a successful revolt against tyrant King Leopold the Lion and his cruel werelions who killed his father (see Rise of the Wolf). Now he and his supporters must turn from rebels with a cause to rulers with a cause though he prefers to return to the meadows as a free man instead of a king making royal decrees.

However, the reluctant king's halfbrother Prince Lucas the Werelion escapes kidnapping Drew's beloved Gretchen the Werefox. Leaving everyone concerned as his advisors insist save the kingdom before saving the girl, Drew pursues them with only Whitley the Werebear at his side. At the same time that Lyssia faces a leadership crisis, the Catlords led by Onyx the Werepanther invade the kingdom.

The second Wereworld young teen fantasy is an action-packed thriller starring a Were who knows he is unprepared to lead a kingdom as his flock has always been sheep not people (though some might argue his subjects behave like sheep). The kingdom is fully developed as young adult readers will enjoy touring the land with Drew as their guide. Although the dual cliffhanging climax will leave the audience disappointed, fans will enjoy the bloody trek getting there.

Action-packed with cliffhanger ending

In this second installment of the Wereworld series, young Wolflord Drew goes on a mission to capture his angry half-brother, the Werelion Lucas. Meanwhile, civil war is brewing in Lyssia. I was really impressed with the world-building of the first book of this series, Rise of the Wolf, so I eagerly rushed to get the second book as soon as it was published. Rage of Lions was action-packed, while thickening the plot by introducing moral dilemmas--the consequences of bad choices with good intentions. I think this book didn't quite hold par with the first one, but it was certainly enough to keep me eager for the third installment, Shadow of the Hawk, which is coming soon. I was a little disappointed with the cliff-hanger ending. I understand that Jobling can't tie up all his loose ends, but certainly he could have made it a little more satisfying.

I really enjoyed reading this book for the most part. I really liked the descriptions of different battles and characters. But sometimes there were points in the story that were a little bit boring in the sense that there wasn't much going on. I would recommend this book to people who like surprises and suspense; I don't like them that much, so I got frustrated at certain points because I wasn't sure who a character was or his background. Overall, though, I really enjoyed this book a lot!!!

How do modern Muslims' attitudes to marital violence and patriarchy relate to the Islamic tradition?

In recent years, discussion regarding the interpretation of the Qur'an has become highly controversial. Especially contentious is passage 4:34, which covers the legitimacy of marital violence and the subjugation of women within Islam. Scholarly opinion on the topic is heavily influenced by contemporary context, so the issue remains largely unsettled. While pre-colonial Islamic jurists permitted the use of violence against women, they still held ethical concerns about the disciplinary privileges of husbands. Consequently, the debate for these early scholars was focussed on the level of violence permitted, and how to apply the three disciplinary steps: admonishment, abandonment, and physical abuse.

Ayesha Chaudhry argues that all living religious traditions are rooted in a patriarchal, social, and historical context, and they need ways to reconcile gender egalitarian values with religious tradition. Post-colonial, modern Islamic scholars that consult the Qu'ran for gender-egalitarian interpretations must confront a difficult and unique debate: equality vs authority. As in many religions, authority is derived from tradition, rebelling from which results in a loss of authority in the eyes of the community.

Chaudhry reveals that Muslims do not speak with one voice about Islam. Instead, Muslim scholarly discourse is spirited and diverse. The voices of contemporary Muslim scholars enrich the scope of the 'Islamic tradition'.
Many recent works on Islam strive to promote a 'public relations' image of Islam. This book deals with ethical problems of domestic violence as discussed in historic and contemporary Islamic religious doctrine. The stakes are high, and very real. The author confronts the significant issue of how modern Muslims can relate to Islamic tradition and the Qur'anic text.
